I'm a programmer, and I build these tools on the side. I pick a task that people search for and get a poor answer to, then build the smallest page that does it properly. Tools that take pasted text run in your browser unless the page says otherwise. When a tool gets steady use, it may move to its own domain, with a redirect from the old address.
